Media Release Appointment of Assistant Governor (Corporate Services)

The Reserve Bank announced today the appointment of Dr J.F. (John) Laker to the newly-created position of Assistant Governor (Corporate Services). More than sixty applications were received for the position, of whom nine were interviewed.

Dr Laker, who holds an Economics degree from Sydney University and a doctorate from the London School of Economics, worked in the Commonwealth Treasury and the International Monetary Fund before joining the Bank's International Department in 1982. Within the Bank he has held senior positions in Research Department and Bank Supervision before becoming Head of International Department. His most recent assignment was as the Bank's London-based Chief Representative in Europe, where he planned and implemented the restructuring of the London Branch of the Bank, and its conversion to a Representative Office.
